There is a wonderful article about a very cynical Hunter S. Thompson viewing the Gun Room as an "oasis" in an otherwise very dreary Butte. He was a true cynic-- even in the Gun Room, no matter how many free refills, he always viewed his glass--and perhaps the world he inhabited--as half empty
